Counselling and Psychotherapy - Brighton, Hove and online
About me
Beginning this journey can be challenging, so let me first acknowledge the courage it takes to reach out. Of course, we want to know more about the person who will be supporting us on our journey.
I am an accredited member of the BACP and I hold a Master’s degree in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London. I also hold a BA in psychology from the University of Sussex. I have over 10 years’ professional experience working in mental health, both in the public and private sectors, before which I worked in the arts and education. It has always been my passion to work with people - to connect with their true selves and their potential.
It is my belief and experience that we all have the deep capacity to identify and grow towards this potential, which can become blocked through trauma, difficulty, and oppression. In my therapy sessions, I work with gentle curiosity and compassion as we honestly explore the often unconscious causes of stuckness and suffering, and find paths toward greater understanding, healing, and happiness.
How I work…
My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, which focusss on how past experiences affect the present - particularly unconscious elements that cause suffering and harmful patterns.
We will co-create a relationship in which we bring honest and compassionate awareness to all aspects of yourself, including those that may still lie outside of your awareness.
This leads to new self-understanding, changes in relationships and patterns, emotional relief, and resolution of inner conflict and confusion.
You may be looking for relief or change in a specific area, or perhaps something more general and hard to put into words. There may be feelings or memories which seem overwhelming or hard to face. We can work together at a pace that feels right to you, towards meaning-making, acceptance and freedom.
I have trained in and have professional experience of other modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness Psychotherapy. I integrate these modalities when appropriate, always tailoring my approach to suit your individual needs and path towards fulfilment.
Choosing the right therapist is a delicate matter and hugely important. I offer an informal, no-obligations 30-minute session free of cost, to get a feel for how I work and discuss how I can best help you.
